  Old Irish Road Signs - Kildare - Old Irish Road Signs is based in a village in Moone, Co. Kildare, something that I always wanted was some signs to put into my garden. They had become scarce and I had no hope of finding any and definitely not with the accurate mileage on them. 

  I had no option but to make my own, so I made 2 exact replicas of Moone and Castledermot signs and I then added the accurate mileage from my home.

  The significance of these two road signs was that Castledermot is my home town and Moone is my wife’s home. It soon happened that there was an immediate reaction from people seeing my signs and I was soon making signs for many people. It started off at first locally, then nationally and now I am making and shipping them worldwide.

  The signs are being used for decoration in many different areas such as, gardens, patios, homes, pubs, schools and businesses and they can be given as a gift for many different occasions. These signs have the added nostalgic attraction for people who actually remember the original old Irish road signs and every sign will mean something and most commonly it is a customer’s home town or a loved one’s home. They can also be historical or functional, and one has even been fictitious, and people receiving each sign always smile – and remember!

  No one likes leaving home and the longer they are away, it seems the more they look for a nostalgic reminder or link to home.

  Specifications and Details of our Signs

  • The signs are 240mm (10 in) high and the average length is 750mm (30 in).
  • Length will vary depending upon the number of letters in the chosen name.
  • The overall thickness of the signs would be 15mm to 20mm (3/4 in).
  • The poles are all 3m long (120 in) and 76mm in diameter (3 in).
  • The letters are individually handmade and bonded to each sign.
  • The English text lettering is 75mm (3 in) high.
  • The Irish text is 35mm (1 1/2 in) high .
  • All letters are 6mm (1/4 in) thick.
  • Celtic style lettering is also available for the Irish translation on any sign.
  • The white background of the sign is 11mm (1/2 in) thick.

  

  More specifications and details:

  • These signs require no maintenance. But, good news, they can be washed with soap and water if necessary.
  • The material the signs and letters are made from is called ‘foamex’. It is a pvc material. Completely weatherproof in all conditions, it is also uv resistant. It won’t fade.
  • The signs can be single or double sided and double sided signs come complete with a bracket (no maintenance).
  • The weight of a single sided sign is approx 800grms and a double sided with bracket weighs approx 2.5kg.  This makes them easy to handle and to Ship Worldwide using standard post.

  Signs Pricing

  • The average cost of a sign is €75 for single sided (usually for wall mounting).
  • Double sided signs cost €95 each and include a bracket attached to the sign that can be used for attaching a pole.
  • We can supply the black and white pole within Ireland. It is 3m long x 76mm diameter This costs €110 plus delivery. Please note we don't ship the poles overseas. We can ship them to Northern Ireland by courier. 
  • The cost of delivery for sign within Ireland is €11.
  • To Northern Ireland is €12. 
  • Delivery worldwide depends on the destination and the weight and we calculate the cost based on this.

  More about our Signs

   

  When we are contacted regarding a sign, we always prepare a full size layout for their approval before completing or any payment request.

  We work with them to ensure that they get exactly what they are looking for right down to the font style (Gaelic or traditional) or their custom requests.

   

  We have also done custom design signs for schools and businesses, including antique shop, boats, shoes, beauty salon, truck bodies, building developments, sports clubs, tidy towns, specific treatment units in hospitals and signs for The National Stud.

   

   

  I have also started making a smaller version of the signs but with exactly the same detail. These are 160mm high signs (as opposed to the 240mm standard sized sign) the length of all signs depends on the amount of lettering.

   

  The cost of these smaller version signs is €60 for a single sided sign and €80 for a double sided.

  Our signs are a constant reminder of our origins and I have also had the added bonus to add family crests to some of the signs for people who want something a little different, but they still look equally as attractive.

  The signs that I make are exact in size and detail to the original signs and they all can have bilingual text and any mileage whether it is accurate or fictitious, this can be added as standard.

  Information on Street signs

   

  Our Old Irish Street signs are full size and can be Replica or original design. They are based on the old street signs sadly disappearing and being replaced with 2 dimensional copies.

  We make them in 3 dimensional style with raised letters and border - just like the originals.

  They are 240mm high and length is determined by the amount of letters on the sign. Average length approx 800mm.

   

  The letters and border are 5mm thick, placed on a 10mm thick base.

  They are painted to a metallic finish and are suitable for indoor or outdoor use. 

  We can recreate Any sign you wish! Or customise your own. We can also recreate the old style gaelic font seen on  some very old originals. Common colours for these signs background is Green, Blue, Black or White. The cost of these signs is €95 and Worldwide shipping is available on these and all signs.
