Love the Place You're in Yoga, Ashbourne

Love the place you're in yoga is based in Ashbourne, County Meath. I serve the areas of Meath, Dublin and Louth. I took my first yoga class in the summer of 2002 in the Burrow school hall Sutton. I don’t think I had ever inhabited my body or felt so relaxed in my life before that class, this is where my journey began.

I had been working retail all my working career, in 2005 I opened a successful Furniture, home accessory and gift store. I closed in 2009 due to recession, having just had my first child. I had a second child in 2011 and a third in 2013, by this stage I was edging to get back out into the world, but I knew my path was no longer in retail.

The draw of yoga was so strong. I loved the idea of furthering my experience, becoming a yoga teacher and sharing the love. In September of 2013 when my youngest was just 5 months old, I began my journey in teacher training with Yoga Therapy Ireland. Over the next two years Yoga became my life, In 2014 I offered my first class at the Parish hall, Ashbourne.
    and haven't looked back since.

What is hatha Yoga? Yoga is different things to different people. My yoga is Hatha yoga. Hatha Yoga is the yoga of physical postures (asana). The word “hatha” can be translated as “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha), the yoga of balance.

By Moving your body in particular ways (asan), coordinated with breathing, we are provided an opportunity to stretch, unwind and release tension.

By Bringing equal awareness to your body parts and breath. We are taken out of habitual thinking and negative dialogue and more into presence and towards our true self.

The pose is not the goal, becoming flexible is not the goal, standing on your hands is not the goal. The goal of Hatha practices is Serenity, to attain peace by calming your body and mind.

    What is Beginners Yoga?

In a beginners class you will learn the basics of a good yoga practice.

The basic yoga postures (asana) will be broken down with step by step instruction and with alignment cues.

You will learn basic pranayama.(breathing exercises) and how to move with your breath.

After a beginners course you will have the tools and the confidence to attend any regular yoga class.

    What is Chair Yoga?

It is a gentle form of yoga that is done by sitting on a chair or standing on the ground using the chair for support.

Chair yoga is a great practice for everyone as it deepens flexibility and strengthens personal body awareness.

Frequently the chair yoga student is unable to participate in a traditional yoga class because of ageing or restriction stemming from disease and illness.

It works very effectively with students who have

joint problems, like Arthritis, muscular problems like Fibromyalgia,

bone problems like Osteopenia, Osteoporosis, neuromuscular problems like Parkinson’s and MS.

Health issues such as: hypertension (high blood pressure), anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, vertigo (medical), carpal tunnel syndrome.

recovery from surgery, illness or injury, for seniors, new practitioners, those seeking stress-reduction or weight management.

It is a great class for anyone who has difficulty getting down to and up from the floor.

My classes are open to ANYONE wishing to attend... lets talk? 0876356535

    What is Restorative yoga?

Restorative yoga is deeply relaxing, therapeutic and healing!

It is usually performed while lying on the ground.

Asan (poses) are static and usually held for 5mins onwards.

Restorative yoga helps provide physical and mental balance through the use of props that allow you to hold poses longer, giving you all the benefits of deep passive stretching, which in turn allows the body to completely surrender into relaxation.

It will offer disconnect and respite from the turbulence of life and lower your heart rate, blood pressure and soothe the nervous system, mitigating effects of regular fight and flight that can be permanently switched on in modern day life.

You will love it as Its kind of like Adult nap time!

    What is Gentle yoga?
This is a gentle introduction to yoga, easier, less intense, non-strenuous, minimalistic, quite meditative and restorative.

Gentle yoga is suitable for people with
movement limitations, or profound stiffness due to the lack of activity
relief from disabilities and chronic conditions e.g., arthritis, back pain and other muscular-skeletal issues
recovery from surgery, illness or injury
    for seniors,
    new practitioners,
    women who are pregnant
those seeking stress-reduction or weight management.
Gentle yoga approach has even been found to be an important compliment in programs to reverse heart disease
provides relief from the challenging conditions of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

Gentle yoga classes are appropriate for those who want a softer, nurturing, slow-paced, well-supported, relaxing practice with carefully sequenced movements and well-measured stretches, including range of motion exercises.
Postures may be approached in gradual steps with plenty of time to focus on breathing and repetition so that the practice is simple to do.

This class is ideal if you have found other yoga classes strenuous.

    108 sun salutations
    International yoga day/Summer Solstice
    108 Sun Salutations
On the Summer Solstice we celebrate the sun and its life-giving energy.
It’s the longest day of the year and gives us 17 hours of daylight.
The summer Solstice marks a time of all nature thriving and being in full bloom.
    We are nature!
    We are not separate!

Sun Salutations are a sequence of yoga poses.
Simply completing one set of Sun Salutations floods the nervous system with solar energy, both balancing emotions and increasing higher cerebral activity.
    Why 108?
In Yogic tradition, something is often repeated 108 times as a sacred spiritual practice to commemorate a special occasion or the beginning/ending of a journey.
In Yoga philosophy 108 is a sacred number which Mathematicians from the Vedic tradition came to view as the number representing the wholeness of existence
The ratio of the diameter of the sun to the earth= 108.
The ratio of the earth to the moon= 108.
There are 27 Lunar constellations over 4 elements and 4 directions (27x4=108).
There are 108 energy lines which converge to form the heart chakra
All Mala beads have 108 beads.
    "I fell down
    I got back up,
    I fell down
    I got back up”

108 Sun Salutations is a journey and an experience.
Its 1296 yoga asan( poses) excluding warm up!!!
Your experience shifts and changes throughout the process.
Your biggest obstacle is NOT physical, it will be your mind.
One minute you will think you are so amazing and the next you will be criticising or even belittling yourself.
There will be moments of despair, lightness, euphoria and bliss.
This is how the mind works and sun salutations really shine a light on it.
However, once we know what to expect, and know that it is normal, we can keep bringing our focus back to the now and to breaths and movements, literally letting thoughts pass through us.
Let the breath and energy of those around you carry you through.
We will all collectively be carrying each other through as a team effort
This is a journey, and we are all on it individually but also together.
We support each other with our breath, effort and endurance knowing we are all going through the same thing.
The fire/heat generated in Sun salutations is cleansing and detoxifying, it releases blockages, mental and physical and brings you closer to yourself.
There is tremendous power in the process even if you do not fully complete it.
    But you will.
